Deep tissue massage can be an effective way to treat chronic physical issues within the body. There is a difference between deep tissue and deep pressure; during a deep tissue massage the pressure does not always need to be heavy in order to achieve the desired effect. Deep tissue massage can be effective without creating trauma to the body. Using the thumbs and elbows the practitioner can work through the superficial tissue to the deep layers of the body thus releasing knots and adhesions in and around the muscles. It is important to have clear communication with the practitioner about the pressure and intensity of the massage.
Swedish massage is perhaps the most common massage practiced. The use of long flowing strokes in the direction of the heart increases circulation and decreases muscle tension. This total body relaxation brings a sense of renewal to the body and helps to calm the mind.
Reiki is an ancient Japanese form of energetic healing. The practitioner becomes a facilitator, tapping into the universal energy which is all around us. By tapping into this energy the practitioner can bring a renewal of energy to the recipient or help to release any energies that no longer serve the receiver. Reiki will leave one feeling light, calm, and peaceful.
CranioSacral Therapy is a technique used to facilitate the body's own self correcting mechanism. The practioner listens to the needs of the recipients body and then using only 5 grams of pressure taps into the CranioSacral system releasing adhesions and bringing the body back into balance by calming the nervous system. Although the touch is very light craniosacral therapy can be a deeper experience than a deep tissue massage.
Sometimes referred to as assisted hatha yoga, Thai yoga massage is a blend of yoga, meditation, and the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. Thai yoga massage is performed on the floor in loose comfortable clothing. The techniques of palming, thumbing, and stretching create a rhythmic dance between the practitioner and recipient. This rhythmic dance leaves the client feeling centered, relaxed, and energized.
